As I walked up Russell Street towards Smith Street, where my car was parked last night, I was conscious of two sounds—the rich, joyous strains of the Hallelujah Chorus, which was being played on a full-toned pipe organ, and the quiet, happy chatter of a crowd of people.

I did not start up my car immediately. I sat and watched. The strains of the organ died down. Its place was taken by the purr of big motor cars; the crowd thinned rapidly.
