An understanding of joy as a quality which reflects Mind...
An understanding of joy as a quality which reflects Mind has come into my life through the study of Christian Science.
One day my three-year-old son stuck something down my six-months-old baby's throat. The baby choked badly and turned black all over. I became so frightened that I started to call a practitioner. Then I thought: "Now, I know that God is governing, God is the only cause and creator, God is the only Father-Mother; therefore, the baby's true selfhood is subject only to the laws of divine Mind. There is no obstruction in divine Mind and no real opposition to perfect activity. God is the baby's Life, and nothing has power to take it from him. Matter cannot harm him because matter has no power, no mind, and is not a cause of anything." I thought along these lines for a few minutes; then I looked at the baby, and saw that he was smiling and was perfectly normal. The incident was completely eradicated from our thought, but the next morning a metal bell, about as big as my thumb, passed from him, and although it had several sharp points, it did not cause him any difficulty in elimination. This was proof to me that the power of Truth does heal.
In our home we have had healings of colds, sore throat, burns, eczema, headaches, ringworm, pinkeye, cuts, sunburn, impetigo, diarrhea, constipation, a spider bite, sprained ankle, malformation of the toes, ulcerated mouth and stomach, influenza, unemployment, and lack of harmony. At the birth of my first baby I received severe lacerations, and much fear was expressed that they would not heal, but through work in Christian Science the lacerations healed so completely that two and a half years later my other son was born harmoniously.
