Perception

Without a sound the fog moved slowly by.
Without disturbing either tree or hill,
It spread an indistinctness gray and still
Among familiar sights. I wondered why
The warm, sweet sun that shone in heaven high
Pierced not the cloud; warmed not the damp and chill.
Then all at once came light—the earth to fill;
And I could see! And more than radiant sky!

For once, quite soundlessly along the trail
From sense to Soul, spread fear and doubt, and tried
To dim the good that God had meant for me.
But rays of Truth appeared. They rent the veil
Of matter's weave. Then Love so clarified
My thought that good was all. And now I see!
