Over fourteen years ago I experienced my first healing through the help of a consecrated Christian Science practitioner. At the time I knew nothing of Christian Science, and was away from home. The healing was of recurrent attacks of rheumatism, which had finally affected my whole body, so that I could not move in bed. My mother and father were sent for. When they saw me, they became disturbed, and said immediately that I must have a doctor. I replied that I did not want a doctor, and I did want to try Christian Science. If I could not have that I would have nothing.

Having tried in vain to shake my decision, they left me, and I took from under my pillow a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. A dear friend had bought it for me, knowing of my desire to learn something about Christian Science. The following week I read spasmodically, and when she had the opportunity my friend would read to me. I improved gradually and by the end of the week was able to go home.

The following week I was stricken again. My friend came to see me, and we arranged that when she reached home she would get in touch with a mutual friend, a Christian Scientist. She did so, and a practitioner was called who, learning of the opposition of my parents, asked first if I myself had expressed a desire for treatment, and if I was of age. Receiving answers in the affirmative, she began working for me.
