"Friends"

Preceding the reading of the Lesson-Sermon in the Sunday service in Christian Science churches is an announcement concerning the nature of the Lessons beginning with the word "Friends" (Christian Science Quarterly, p. ii). That greeting is addressed to everyone who listens to the reading of the Lesson-Sermon.

For many years the Lesson-Sermons have been studied and read in English and in the mother tongue of a number of countries. All seekers can thus share in the teaching of Christian Science, that God is Love and that Love is the only power. All have the privilege of learning how to use that power in helping to improve national conditions and in aiding in establishing the kingdom of heaven on earth. The message is calling the whole world to Truth.

It is apparent that the influence of the spiritual view set forth in Christian Science must be very great, preparing human thought for the new day when all humanity will regard existence in the light of spiritual truth. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, in her writings reveals the truth of God's allness and of man's inclusion in God's love. In her poem entitled "The United States to Great Britain," she writes (Poems, p. 11):
