Life

Life springs forever
From the eternal God,
Whose Word is power,
Whose light, eternal noon.
Life knows no ebb or flow,
No midnight hour,
No fatal star,
No unpropitious moon.

Not yours the impulse
That would look within,
And find through death
(That shadow gray and grim)
A sure release.

Yours is dominion,
Calm and exalted peace,
A stern resolve,
A deep desire to win.

So rest, belovèd,
Quiet, unconcerned;
For if upon the hearth
The flame burns low,
God will rekindle
Through the Spirit's glow
Your treasury of being, hid with Him.
