Democrat

A recent contributor to the Democrat evidently meant to commend Christian Science when she said "the faithful followers of 'Christian Science' have been proving to the world the truth and efficiency of mind over matter, with marvelous results," and the intended commendation is gratefully acknowledged. But because the word "mind" was not capitalized it indicated only the human mind, and so conveyed to your readers a wrong impression as to the teaching of Christian Science.

I should, therefore, like space in your columns to explain that Christian Science places no reliance on the operation of the human or mortal mind for the correction of any wrong condition, but it depends wholly on divine Mind, or God, for healing and release from every phase of discord.

To illustrate this further, the following quotation from page 482 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, is submitted: "Christian Science is the law of Truth, which heals the sick on the basis of the one Mind or God. It can heal in no other way, since the human, mortal mind so-called is not a healer, but causes the belief in disease."
