"Divine Love corrects and governs man

"Divine Love corrects and governs man. Men may pardon, but this divine Principle alone reforms the sinner." So we read on page 6 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. These glorious words of our dear Leader have a deep meaning, as I can bear witness.

In 1937 I became acquainted with a man whom today I call a true friend. It was this friend who helped me to find the path of truth and duty. He took me to the house of a Christian Science practitioner, where I experienced such a feeling of peace that I could not understand it. I talked with the practitioner, and in a short time became conscious, as never before, of my erroneous way of life. And it was the love expressed in this experience that brought about an instantaneous transformation in me. On going home I thought over all that I had heard, and determined to become a better man from then on, with God's help.

The next morning I gave up tobacco and alcohol, and also kept away from the company of those who used them. I bought myself a Bible, the textbook of Christian Science, and a copy of the Christian Science Quarterly. With the practitioner's guidance I studied the Lesson-Sermon each day. This gave me a considerable understanding of the truth, and I am deeply grateful to God for it. Later I was confronted with a difficult family problem, which was solved for me in the best possible way through the help of Christian Science.
