Christian Science was presented to me six years ago

Christian Science was presented to me six years ago. I was sick and in great need. I had been left with two tiny children, and the strain of trying to earn a livelihood, during what was commonly called "the slump" period, culminated in a complete breakdown. I was in great pain, and a rash covered my body from head to foot. The doctor pronounced the trouble rheumatism. After his departure, the woman with whom I was living came to my bedside and put down a book, saying that I might get some help from it. With little interest, I took it up and began to read the chapter entitled "Prayer." I hardly remember anything more of the illness. I was uplifted and happy. I had always wondered why people could not heal as Jesus healed. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy told me all about the wonderful truth which he demonstrated.

Two days later, the doctor called on me again, and gave me a fresh prescription. The next day I visited a Christian Science practitioner, who gave me a treatment. I went home, tipped my medicines down the sink, and did not have the second prescription made up. I returned to the practitioner, had another treatment, and commenced work again the next day. I did not have the slightest fear. Each day I gained strength and health. I was enabled, almost immediately, to obtain a copy of Science and Health. This was my first demonstration of Truth as the source of supply; and from that time our financial position improved and all our needs were met. At last I knew the joy of living.

My elder child had suffered periodically from tonsillitis. Within three months she had had three attacks. She had been in a very weak condition, and my fears for her had been very great. Each time this erroneous condition manifested itself she would be in bed for several days, and for ten days would eat practically nothing and take no interest in anything. Immediately following my healing, this trouble appeared again, but I had no fear of it. I left her in bed in the morning, and on returning home in the evening I found her sitting up in the dining room, looking quite bright and smiling happily. From that time on, although the error has appeared at intervals, it has been overcome almost immediately through our knowing the allness of God and the power-lessness of error. The child has seldom missed a meal, and has never been in bed with that trouble again or missed a day from school.
