Turning to God

[Written Especially for Young People]

To those who are familiar with athletic contests, the call for "time out" is a familiar one. Frequently it is called by one of the teams for the purpose of more effectively coordinating its play. The fundamental points learned in practice are emphasized in order to overcome the errors being shown in the play. The team that has practiced consistently finds this "time out" effective. A team, however, that has practiced little, or not at all, finds it difficult to make the necessary changes under the stress of the game.

Mortals frequently find themselves in a similar situation. Oftentimes they seem to be driven by their work—unable to find sufficient time to complete necessary duties. Unless we reject the belief in overwork or overactivity, on the basis of its unreality, as Christian Science teaches, mental strain, nervousness, irritability, or physical disorder may manifest itself. Such a condition can be overcome if we go apart to seek God's will prayerfully.

Mental poise and balance are necessary for the attainment of harmony in daily activities—a condition which all desire, but which many seem unable to attain. Material methods alone are incapable of producting order, serenity, and effectiveness in the performance of daily tasks and activities. Spiritual realization of good as ever present, the result of our communion with God, divine Mind, alone enables us to attain this desired goal.
