In deep gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me, I offer this testimony. As a child I was always considered to have more or less of a frail and delicate constitution, due to tuberculosis of the bowels, and at one time I spent as much as a wholw year in bed. Some years later a sudden development of the condition left me too weak to walk upright, and an X-ray examination by a well-known specialist in Copenhagen located the trouble in the spine. I spent four months on my back in a clinic, where it was finally decided to make a close-fitting frame or jacket, with steel supports under my arms, and thus relieve the spine of weight. Even with this appliance, however, I was told that I might die at any moment, and, at the most, could live but three years. For the next year or two I spent considerable time in bed to avoid wearing this disagreeable appliance, and I could not stand upright without it.

My early religious training taught me to accept all this very patiently, but I was soon to learn that the whole experience was entirely outside God's plan for His children. I had gone to Canada, and my husband, having heard of Christian Science from an acquaintance, brought me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, with the remark, "He says that if you will read this book, you will be healed." I read till three in the morning in order to finish it, without understanding much of what I read. But as Mrs. Eddy says on page 152 of this wonderful textbook, "Truth has a healing effect, even when not fully understood." After a year of study, and with the help of a friend, I realized that I was healed. Since I first read Science and Health I have not had a day in bed, and the jacket was never used again. Since my healing of this condition I have lived a very active life, circumstances having compelled me to look after myself and my son through his early school training and up through his university education. I am profoundly grateful that I have been able to do this, and at the same to do my share in helping others on otheir way from sense to Soul.
