My first healing in Christian Science was that of a so-called incurable stomach condition. I had been ill for several years, and friends who were students of Christian Science tried to interest me, but I always replied that it was not for me. There came a time in my experience, however, when I had a sincere desire to know what the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, contained. Without any thought of being benefited in any way, I gained my complete healing while reading the book. This was in 1910.
About two years after my healing I found myself possessed of a miserable fear that the physical trouble was returning. While listening to a testimony given at one of our Wednesday evening meetings I was healed of this fear and of symptoms of the physical discord. The speaker related how an old ill had seemed to return, and one day the thought came to her that what had never occurred could never recur; and this statement liberated me.
For some years I suffered from severe attacks of gallstones. Shortly after my first healing I suffered from a very severe attack, and I asked for my first Christian Science treatment. In a few hours I was entirely free, and have never had a recurrence of the trouble.
