When a young girl I came west to spend the summer...

When a young girl I came west to spend the summer in the Rocky Mountains with my brother and family. Within a month after my reaching this mountain-ranch resort, my brother passed on with spotted fever. At the same time his seventeen-months-old baby was stricken with cholera infantum, and it looked, for several weeks, as though she would also pass on. During these experiences two physicians were called from near-by cities, who faithfully and tirelessly attended them, day and night.

Previous to coming west I had seen my mother healed by Christian Science of what had been considered an incurable heart trouble. I had also been healed of pernicious anemia, and an attending physician said I was going into quick consumption. I had coughed almost incessantly for two weeks, prior to turning to Science. My mother's healing came about through reading the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, and through her application and utilization of the truths found therein. My own healing came through the help of a young friend. The cough was instantaneously overcome, and in two weeks' time I was free from these erroneous physical conditions.

At the time of my brother's illness, I constantly affirmed that when I was again among Scientists, and where there was a textbook, I would study and learn more of this truth, against the time when I might be confronted with a similar need to help a loved one.

Four summers ago my own son was brought home to me with spotted fever. My husband asked, "Do you feel afraid?" I hardly know how to express the gratitude I feel that I could truthfully say, "I have no fear at all and hope you have none." He had been present during my brother's experience, but assured me that he was "not at all fearful with Science on the job."

In a few hours our son became rational and asked, "Mother, do you think this is spotted fever?" I said, "You aren't afraid, are you, son?" and he answered, "Not now that I am home where I can have Science help."

The fever abated around midnight. He was quiet and practically out of pain, and my husband recommended that I rest. I felt assured that the condition was met, but I was called about four. There seemed to be a complete reversal, but I am happy to say I did not feel any fear, but knew that mortal mind was trying to make me believe the work was not effective. Very shortly afterwards he was again asleep, and two days later he was able to return to the mine.

When our son was well again, I pointed out to him that ignoring error never heals it; that one must alertly overcome every suggestion of evil which presents itself to thought; and that one must also handle the general fears which try to make inroad into one's thinking.

I am indeed grateful to Mrs. Eddy for giving the chart by which we are able to recognize and depend upon the divine influence which is always present to save and heal.

I should like to corroborate the part of the above testimony relative to my own healing of spotted fever, and to express gratitude for this and many outstanding proofs that Christian Science does heal.
