[Original testimony in German]
With a grateful heart I should like to tell of my experiences...
With a grateful heart I should like to tell of my experiences in Christian Science.
In the fall of 1935, when I was employed as a salesman in a provincial town in eastern Germany, my business took me, among other places, to the home of a Christian Science practitioner. At the time I was longing to get back into my former occupation as an office worker, but on account of my age and my long absence from this work, there seemed to be very little prospect for such employment. The practitioner lovingly called my attention to the fact that we are constantly in the presence of the rich abundance of our Father-Mother God. When my business away from home was at an end, I returned to Berlin and was again assigned to an outlying district as a salesman. While I went about my work, I offered my knowledge and abilities through newspaper advertisements, as I had done formerly, without success. In the meantime it became very difficult for me to do my daily work as joyously as I should, but the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and the loving work of the practitioner gave me the strength for it. I am grateful that I always earned as much as we needed, without ever using questionable sales methods.
After a short time, in reply to my applications, I received offers from two firms at the same time. At first the choice seemed hard for me to make. But I finally chose the place which seemed more harmonious to me, although the work required there was more difficult and the monthly salary less than in the other place. I am very grateful today that God led me to make this choice. I am very happy in my activity. Without my doing anything about it, my salary was increased within a short time, and, since I have done some additional work that was required, it has been increased again.
