God-given Ability

How necessary it is to be mentally awake, to be conscious of our God-given ability and alert to claim our heritage! Material sense is not stirred by a desire for spiritual achievement and a more abundant sense of Life. On page 89 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy has made this arresting statement: "We are all capable of more than we do." An awakening to the truth is vital to genuine progress.

Such a revelation must have been Moses' experience at the burning bush. It was there that he was aroused to the realization of the presence of God, and of his divinely inspired commission. It is a significant fact that this revelation came to him while he was attending to a humble task, a duty close at hand—keeping the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, in the "backside of the desert."

A suggestion which often attempts to thwart one's effort just at the threshold of true accomplishment, presented itself to Moses; for we read in Exodus, "And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?" Lack of confidence in his ability was silenced by the divine assurance, "Certainly I will be with thee."
