In the one hundred and seventh Psalm we read, "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy." And in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" Mrs. Eddy says (p.229), "The redeemed should be happier than the elect." It is with a deep sense of joy and happiness that I testify to the redemptive power of Christian Science.
When I became a student of Christian Science, my husband was addicted to the use of alcohol, and we experienced all the unhappiness that goes with it. I felt at once that Christian Science could and would heal him, but I did not know the years of consecrated study it would take. I wish to express my gratitude for all the loving help we received from Christian Science practitioners from time to time. The periods of drinking lessened, but he was not healed at that time. Christian Science, however, did much for us in other ways. Our three children had grown up into healthy young manhood and womanhood, and had learned to live happy and free lives through its teachings, but I knew my heart would never be satisfied unless the complete demonstration was made in our home. I know that it could be done only by constantly and consciously reflecting Life, Truth, and Love, and by seeing man as the image and likeness of God, thus dispelling the erroneous picture which the testimony of material sense presented.
I studied the Bible, especially the four Gospels, also Mrs. Eddy's writings, and prayed very earnestly to God to show me the way. Gradually, but with definite certainty, it was revealed that we should leave California and go to England, in order to straighten out a financial wrong to his employer which my husband had committed during our residence there, many years before. This seemed a big step to take, but we wished to be willing and obedient, so courageously trusted our Father-Mother God, and were lovingly led every step of the way. Some money that had been due to us for a few years came quite unexpectedly, taking care of the financial need, and proving to us that we were obeying our Father's will and purpose for us.
