Hayward, California (First Church). — Cleared of all indebtedness, First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Hayward, located at 1122 B Street, was dedicated on Sunday, December 18, 1938. Dedicatory services were held in the morning and afternoon. The regular Christian Science order of service was used. Before the service, a history of the church organization was read.

It is a rule of this denomination that no church edifice be dedicated until entirely free from debt.

On August 25, 1910, Christian Science Society of Hayward was organized. On July 6, 1920, the society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Hayward. A lot was purchased in 1921, and a building fund was established. In June, 1923, ground was broken for the present building, in which the first service was held in September, 1923.

In closing the dedication remarks, the First Reader quoted the words of Mary Baker Eddy (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 182): "Humbly, gratefully, trustingly, I dedicate this beautiful house of worship to the God of Israel, the divine Love that reigns above the shadow, that launched the earth in its orbit, that created and governs the universe—guarding, guiding, giving grace, health, and immortality to man." — Castro Valley Reporter.
