Right Solution of Problems

IT is a well-known fact that in the science of numbers there are no problems to which the correct answer is not already established, though it is our part to apply the rules and find the solution. This is true also in our application of the Science of being, or Christian Science. One definition of the word "problem" is "a question proposed for solution." The most vital problem confronting mankind is to find the right interpretation of Life, since human welfare, health, and happiness depend on this interpretation. This problem of being has baffled humanity since the beginning of mortal history, and, if one should judge from the material evidence presented in the world today, the problem seems to many as great an enigma as ever.

The fact that men and women are constantly seeking the solution of problems, for themselves and others, shows that there is something lacking; it points to the fact that there is something we need to know, and did we know it we should solve our problem. Thus we see that a problem has in itself no value, but that in solving it we learn a lesson. Our difficulty is but a temporary seeming absence of good, or ignorance of God, whom we should know. Jesus said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

When Mary Baker Eddy discovered Christian Science, the Science of Life, Truth, and Love, she experienced a spiritual awakening. On page 556 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" she writes: "Ontology receives less attention than physiology. Why? Because mortal mind must waken to spiritual life before it cares to solve the problem of being, hence the author's experience; but when that awakening comes, existence will be on a new standpoint." Our Master, Christ Jesus, said to Nicodemus, when he came inquiring concerning the kingdom of God: "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." The new birth begins with the awakening to spiritual life in individual human consciousness. Then the meaning of existence is seen, namely, that man and the universe exist to glorify God, good.
