Effective Standpoint

CHRIST JESUS foretold the coming of the Comforter, "the Spirit of truth," which should lead us "into all truth." He clearly realized that God had sent him to be the Saviour of the world, and he performed his marvelous works through this high sense of his divine sonship and mission. And he proclaimed the coming of the Comforter with the same authority.

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered Christian Science in 1866, speaks of her revelation with power and divine assurance. Referring to Jesus' promise, she says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 55), "This Comforter I understand to be Divine Science."

In "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" she writes (p. 242): "Christian Science is absolute: it is neither behind the point of perfection nor advancing towards it; it is at this point and must be practiced therefrom. Unless you fully perceive that you are the child of God, hence perfect, you have no Principle to demonstrate and no rule for its demonstration." The surety that Christian Science is the Science of Christ, the law of God, enabled her to take a strong stand in establishing its teaching and healing, in spite of the doubt and incredulity of world thought.
