I have had the benefit of some understanding of Christian Science...
I have had the benefit of some understanding of Christian Science for a number of years, during which time my family and I have had many physical healings, have learned much-needed lessons, recovered lost articles, and, most important of all, have gained a realization of the necessity "for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds," as Mrs. Eddy says on page 4 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
Several years ago, when my son was about seven years of age, I received a call from his teacher to come to the school because he was ill. When I arrived, I found the child suffering from a high fever, and I took him home. A Christian Science practitioner was called, and treatment asked for. The symptoms indicated malaria, which was thought to have been contracted during a recent vacation at a summer resort. For days the battle with error raged. At times the child rallied; then would relapse into a high fever, and become delirious. I became alarmed, because of certain complications, and entertained the fear of death. After several hours of mental anguish, I was able to rouse myself from my extreme sense of fear. As my thought became clearer, I was able to see that death could not really occur. I had a clear sense of ever-present and eternal Life, which is God, and which is reflected by man. Very shortly afterward the healing was accomplished, and there has never been a return of the condition.
I cannot express in words my gratitude for the practitioner who was so patient with me, and to whose work I give full credit for the unfoldment that took place in my thought, which was followed by a beautiful and complete healing.
