A résumé of a sermon that appeared in a recent issue...
Sentinel, Ansonia
A resume of a sermon that appeared in a recent issue prompts a word of information and comment.
You report a sermon in which the pastor stressed the importance of perusing the Scriptures. He is quoted as saying, "Christian Science demands that every person who would become a Scientist shall read a chapter each day out of the Bible and a passage from Mary Baker Eddy's 'key' to the Scriptures."
The speaker is only partially correct. Christian Scientists are not commanded, but rather joyously privileged to study each day the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. This is made up of passages from the Bible and correlative passages from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. These Lesson-Sermons are on twenty-six subjects, and each subject is the basis of study twice each year. Christian Scientists truly "search the scriptures," for they know that in them the way of Truth is found.
