When I compare my physical condition of suffering and general discord of many years ago with my present consciousness of harmony and well-being, brought about by Christian Science after I gave up trying to gain health through the help of materia medica, I realize the deep gratitude I owe to this Science.

For many years I had been a great sufferer from severe headaches, stomach troubles, and other erroneous physical conditions from which medicine brought me at best only temporary relief. When my attention was called to Christian Science I readily accepted it, having tried every other means for gaining health without success; and my surprise and joy were indeed great when I found myself freed from my suffering after one treatment. The healing was complete and permanent.

This experience seemed almost miraculous, and I began reading Mrs. Eddy's writings in order to learn the underlying cause of this change. The realization came to me that my previous discordant condition was the result of unlovely mental qualities, such as irritability, hate, quick temper, and fear. I earnestly attempted to overcome these characteristics by being loving, considerate, and helpful toward my fellow men; and the resultant changed mental state soon brought about a feeling of harmony, peace, and joy. This was ample cause for gratitude. But to crown my benefits I soon gained a practical, demonstrable religion, which enables me to solve the many problems that confront one in daily life.
