There are two main reasons for which I have cause to be deeply grateful to Christian Science: the healing of what appeared to be hopelessly unhappy circumstances, and the revelation of Truth, which has given me an entirely new outlook, new enthusiasm, and new interests.
I was brought up to attend the Church of England regularly, but one morning I walked out of an early communion service feeling that there was nothing for me there. I was very miserable at this time and felt my religion had failed me. So a year or two later I went to an Easter service in different surroundings, but with the same results. All this time I had read my Bible. It was all I had, and I felt sure that if Jesus had been living he could and would have helped me, but as he lived two thousand years ago I was unable to see how he could help me at the present time.
My husband, who had been ill since the war, and had been having various medical and electrical treatments without success, was taken by friends to a Christian Science practitioner and was healed in a few days. This healing made me feel that the time had come to find out about Christian Science; and I went to see the same practitioner. I was very tiresome, arguing not altogether pleasantly, till he eventually said he was a busy man and could give me no more time. "But," he said, "do you believe in God?" I said that I did. "Do you believe that He is infinite?" With conviction, but without thought, I said that I did, and as I said the words I saw what I had acknowledged: infinite good, in which there could be no room for evil. That glimpse of Truth has often stood me in good stead since. Very soon afterwards my difficulties increased, and there was no help for me but Christian Science. The healing has taken many years, but the working out has abundantly blessed all concerned.
