One of the religious Tenets of Christian Science, as stated...

Thomas County Herald-Clipper

One of the religious Tenets of Christian Science, as stated by Mary Baker Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder, on page 497 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," reads, "As adherents of Truth we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."

That clear statement should be conclusive as regards the place given by Christian Scientists to the Bible. Let me quote another passage from the Christian Science textbook, where, outlining how Christian Science was revealed to her, Mrs. Eddy writes (ibid., p. 110): "In following these leadings of scientific revelation, the Bible was my only textbook. The Scriptures were illumined; reason and revelation were reconciled, and afterwards the truth of Christian Science was demonstrated."

Christian Scientists are devoted students of the Bible, use it in all their church services, and depend upon it for counsel, inspiration, comfort, and reproof. And they are grateful to Mrs. Eddy for having elucidated its meaning and made the Bible for them a more inspiring and usable book.
