What Shall I Do?
[Written Especially for Young People]
The question confronting almost everyone at the close of his school or college years is, What shall I do? Through the teachings of Christian Science we learn that in divine reality there is a place for each one of God's children, and that each place is individual. Thus we see that no one can take our place, and that we cannot fill another's.
First we should learn to distinguish between legitimate and illegitimate activity. If we live up to our highest sense of right, we shall ally ourselves with and give our support only to such activities or enterprises as will be of real benefit to ourselves and our fellow men. Anything that could in any way injure, frighten, or degrade another would be illegitimate. Animated by right motives, we should not wish to take advantage of another, mislead, belittle, dominate, or influence him harmfully, but should think, speak, and act only in such ways as would glorify God in our own lives and bless our brother. This being the case, we shall at once eliminate from our acceptance the opportunities for activities which may be open to us, but upon which we could not ask God's blessing.
Self-examination enables us to detect any deterrent in our own thought and to destroy it with Truth. This freeing of our thought through the truth opens up to us possibilities of achievement along lines which perhaps we had not considered, and greatly increases our courage and confidence.
