Fear Thou Not!

That fear is the chief enemy of mankind is a fact now generally accepted. Many human remedies have been put forward for fear, but fear, individual and collective, continues notwithstanding. Fear to many seems to come from nowhere, but to be ever at hand. The average mortal is more or less afraid of everything, even somewhat afraid of what he may believe to be God; for scholastic theology has taught a wrathful God.

The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, sets forth in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the fact that fear is often the cause of sickness. She says (p. 368), "When fear disappears, the foundation of disease is gone."

The Bible abounds in admonitions to fear not, and it states as a fact that "love is the fulfilling of the law," and that "perfect love casteth out fear." The prophet Isaiah understood the Lord to say, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
