Some years ago I had an operation for appendicitis which was apparently successful, but after a time adhesions developed. For years I was scarcely ever free from pain, and I went to several medical specialists, all of whom told me the same thing, namely, that there was no real cure for me; that I should have to put up with the pain, and that I must diet very carefully.

I had known something of Christian Science, without taking very much interest in it, but on finding that there was no other help for me, I began to look into it. On several occasions I obtained relief through the work of practitioners, who were most kind and helpful, but I could not overcome the fear that the pain might return and it always did.

One day these words of Christ Jesus came to me very clearly: "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." I decided to study Christian Science with one thought only—to know God and to put away all thought of physical healing. This I did, and I began to see more clearly the fact that since God made man in His own image and likeness, man is spiritual and perfect; and pain, which God never made, had never really been present, and therefore could not return. As this truth dawned on me, all fear and pain were gradually destroyed, and I have now been free for years.
