Today

I wake and greet the morn with thoughts of Thee,
Knowing Thy ever-presence leadeth me.
No fear of what ensuing hours may bring
Of sorrow, want, or other unreal thing
Shall mar my day.

I shall not dwell on yesterday's defeat,
Nor chide myself, because I did not meet
Each circumstance as victor; but once more
I'll consecrate, through knowledge of Love's store,
To Thee, my day.

I'll count my blessings, giving thanks to Thee,
Grateful that I may glimpse the unity
Of God and man and universe. I'll press
Onward and upward, through all seeming stress,
To heaven today.

I'll see, through eyes of truth, my fellow man
Perfect, unfallen, whole. Such seeing can
Help him and me to rise to such a height
That we may glimpse in beauty, power, and might
God's holy day.
