Employer and Employee

A subject of vital importance to men and women today is that of employment. Much confusion, dissatisfaction, and unemployment are apparent because the average concept of employment is mainly erroneous. When one views this subject from a purely material standpoint, a sense of limitation and misunderstanding is apt to arise, but when one looks at it from the basis of Truth, the revelation which ensues brings freedom and satisfaction.

On page 492 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy makes this important statement: "For right reasoning there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence." So, in order to find the truth about any situation or condition, be it unemployment or unsatisfactory employment, students of Christian Science are taught to turn from the false testimony of material sense to the real facts of being and to consider prayerfully what is now true about "spiritual existence."

A dictionary defines "employer" as "one who employs another," and "employee" is defined as "one employed by another; a workman in the service of an employer." In the light of Christian Science, the fact appears that God, Mind, the only presence and power, alone employs man. God creates or employs man to express His nature, His allness; and man, through reflection, being obedient to the Mind that is God, eternally expresses his Father's will and characteristics This truth, understood and rightly applied, solves the human problem of employment.
