Mt. Vernon, New York (First Church).—Cleared of all indebtedness, the $100,000 edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, located at 112 Crary Avenuem, was dedicated Sunday, November 21, 1937.

The church, branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, has had an eventful history, marked by steady progress and activity. It had its beginning in 1895, when a few interested individualsd began meeting in a private home. Before long, there were enough attendants to warrant the hiring of a hall.

Steady progress necessitated removal to larger quarters, until in 1904 the group was incorporated, and set about building a church of its own. This edifice was occupied until 1913, when it was destroyed by fire.

Members began building a new church, which was located at Ninth Avenue and Valentine Street. This structure was dedicated in 1923.

By 1928, this building had been outgrown, and a larger one on Crary Avenue was purchased and completely remodeled. This is the edifice which was dedicated Sunday. Three services instead of the usual two were held, to accommodate visitors and friends who wished to attend.
