"Thy Father which seeth in secret"

The saying that "man's extremity is God's opportunity" illustrates countless cases wherein some discord or other, whether of sickness, lack, sorrow, sin, or such like, has been healed through Christian Science after all material remedies have failed to bring release. So long as matter appears to give us a certain amount of pleasure and satisfaction, we turn to it, but when it fails we are ready to turn to Spirit for what we need.

On page 11 of "Rudimental Divine Science," Mrs. Eddy has written, "Sickness is the schoolmaster, leading you to Christ; first to faith in Christ; next to belief in God as omnipotent; and finally to the understanding of God and man in Christian Science, whereby you learn that God is good, and in Science man is His likeness, the forever reflection of goodness." In this passage our Leader mentions only mental states; yet we are often slow to realize their significance, and continue to look to the body for health, to our bank account for wealth, and to persons or circumstances for happiness.

In Proverbs we read, "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all they getting get understanding;" and, "Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life." Mrs. Eddy gives ignorance of God as one of the causes of disease. We are deeply grateful to our Leader for her great gift, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," because the study of this book together with the Bible corrects our ignorance and brings to light the true sense of health, or wholeness, through conscious unity with God, who is everlasting Life, who made everything "very good," and who could not create anything imperfect or diseased.
