"Man's unity with his Maker"

What would not anyone give to be able to say with assurance, such as the beloved Master possessed, "I and my Father are one"! He did not accept the supposition of any intelligence or power apart from God. He knew that all good comes from God and is man's by virtue of reflection. When he was called "Good Master," he said, "Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God." He knew that goodness is the expression of God, infinite good, and he wanted all to look to God as the source of all goodness. He said, "He that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him." He always acknowledged God as the source of all intelligence, goodness, and power, and was ever alert to the fact that the real man is eternally governed by God, divine Principle.

When we keep before us the fact that God is the one Ego, and that man is His reflection, we begin to see how much of self enters into our thought and conversation. So often we speak and act as if intelligence, love, and goodness belonged to us apart from God. This shows how earnestly we must strive in order to gain the understanding of our unity with God, as expressed in Jesus' words, "I and my Father are one."

Pride shuts out true intelligence and the ability to reflect the attributes of Soul. This is illustrated in Nebuchadnezzar's experience. Filled with arrogance and pride in what he had accomplished, he said, "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?" It is recorded that at that moment his human sense of intelligence was beclouded, and he "was driven from men." Later, when he acknowledged God, his reason returned to him.
