Christian Science came into my experience at a time of...

Christian Science came into my experience at a time of mental and physical disturbance. I did not take it up for physical healing, because I knew so little about it that I did not know it could help me in this way. My interest was aroused by seeing the joy and happiness which seemed continually to abound in the experiences of a friend, who was a devout student of Christian Science. I was hungry for peace and quietness of thought, which had never seemed to be permanently mine.

After attending the Christian Science services and reading the literature for a short time, I found that very persistent colds and hay fever had vanished into their native nothingness. Constipation, which had been tenacious for years, was completely healed through my decision to rely wholly upon God as my only physician.

One of my first experiences of healing, which has been a beacon light in many storms of sense, came when I ran a rusty ice pick completely through one of my fingers. As I removed it, instantly my thought turned to the little I could remember of "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 468), that "God is All-in-all." Even while I was holding to this thought, mortal sense tried to argue that I did not have enough understanding to help myself, and that I should use some medicine for my protection, or call my friend for help. Then I took my stand and decided that if there was anything in Christian Science I was going to prove it. I turned to my textbook and began to read. I had scarely read a page when the realization came that nothing had happened to God's child. From that instant I was completely free. There was no more pain and no physical evidence, except for a tiny mark on either side of the finger.
