When a young girl, I became interested in Christian Science through promising a friend that I would sometime attend a Christian Science church service. At the time I was living in the Northwest, but shortly after this, acting on the advice of my physician, I went to Southern California to spend the winter months, hoping that I should be benefited by the climate. I was suffering from tuberculosis, insomnia, heart disease, and stomach trouble.

One day, shortly after I arrived in California, I passed a Christian Science church and remembered my promise to my friend. The following Sunday morning I attended the church, but owing to a fit of coughing at the beginning of the service, I was unable to stay. I had heard, however, the announcement from the desk of the Wednesday evening testimony meetings, and on the following Wednesday evening I was there again. This was the turning point in my life.

Statements were made by two of the testifiers at the meeting which set me thinking. One was to the effect that the twenty-third Psalm, analyzed and prayerfully studied, had brought much help. The other was, " 'God is no respecter of persons;' what He has done for one He will do for another." That night when I retired, I began to analyze the twenty-third Psalm to the best of my ability. The next thing I knew it was eight o'clock in the morning. I had slept through the night—something I had not done for more than a year. My Bible, which I had carried about for many years, but never read, was taken from the bottom of my trunk and became my close companion.
