It is now over twenty years since I first heard of Christian Science. Up to that time my life had been a burden to me, and I remember waking in the morning and hoping I should not see another day, but simply pass away. I had been an invalid practically all my life, and was also very lame, the bone of one of my feet being diseased. During these years of invalidism I had always tried to be patient, for I certainly thought that it was God's will that I should suffer.
When I became interested in Christian Science, however, I was told that this was not the case, for God, who is Love, could not wish His child to suffer. This statement arrested my attention and was a grand revelation to me. I decided to take up the study of Christian Science, and to find a practitioner to help me. I was earnest in trying to understand its wonderful truths, but seemed to make little headway, and became very much discouraged. After Christian Science treatment had been given me for about three months, I decided I would try to do my own work, although the healing had not yet taken place.
I soon had a most beautiful experience. I went out one evening, walking as usual with the help of a stick, and feeling very weak. As I reached the garden gate I seemed distinctly to hear a voice speaking to me and telling me that I was healed. This was indeed the case, for I walked without my stick with ease. In fact, I almost ran up the hill, rejoicing in the wonderful power of Truth and Love.
