A clergyman, in his contribution to your series, "What I Believe," writes, "We have, however, to take the evil seriously, and I can see no attraction in the proposal of Christian Science to pretend that it is not there or that it is an illusion of 'mortal mind.'"

I should like to be allowed to put the Christian Science viewpoint before your readers. Christian Science does not "pretend" that the evil is not there, nor does it treat it anything but seriously. It does, however, deny the absolute reality of evil, and proves this denial in specific instances by causing the evil to vanish.

The following quotation is from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 339): "God, Spirit, alone created all, and called it good. Therefore evil, being contrary to good, is unreal, and cannot be the product of God."
