Farsunds Avis

In Farsunds Avis of June 23, under the heading "Truth and Error," a pastor gives a statement about Christian Science which could hardly be more erroneous. I have no doubt that the pastor wrote in good faith, but nothing which he says indicates that he himself has read any of the authorized Christian Science literature. Yet one would think this requisite if one is to inform others about this religion.

Christian Science rests wholly on the Bible. He who with an unprejudiced mind studies Mary Baker Eddy's book, the title of which is not "Science and Healing," but "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," finds that it gives him a better understanding of the truth revealed in the Bible than he had before, and this is the purpose of the book.

"With the gospel this movement has nothing to do," the pastor writes. And yet Christian Science has brought to thousands who have submitted to sin, sickness, sorrow, et cetera, a clear understanding of Jesus' statement that "the kingdom of God is within" us, here and now, if we will but receive it. Christian Scientists honestly seek to follow all the commandments of Jesus, including that of healing the sick, as it was done by the apostles and the early Christians. Jesus said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." Jesus is the great example for all Christians, and Christian Scientists rejoice that their work of converting sinners and healing the sick bears good fruit, even if they willingly admit that they are but beginners in the Science which underlies the mighty works of the Master.
