Christian Science—Our Good Samaritan

As more of gratitude is realized and expressed by students of Christian Science for the daily good that is unfolded to them through the study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, more of light, joy, and revelation will come into their experience. Many have found that when the early morning hour is devoted to study of the Lessons and quiet communion with the one Mind, much good unfolds, and a higher sense of peace and spirituality accompanies thought throughout the day's endeavors. There may be times when such procedure is not possible; nevertheless, it is a highly satisfactory and commendable way to start the day.

One learns in Christian Science that personal sense is the counterfeit of spiritual sense, and so he sees that he must not personalize either good or evil. When one learns to apply these truths of Christian Science in the correction of wrong conditions of thought, he more readily sees that he can and must take them into his very own thinking and apply them practically.

For instance, a recent Lesson-Sermon on "Love" included citations from Jesus' parable of the man who fell among thieves and was aided by the good Samaritan. Many helpful ideas were gained when the parable was considered from the impersonal angle of states and conditions of thought. Mary Baker Eddy has said in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 117), "Our Master taught spirituality by similitudes and parables." These parables do not lose any of their helpfulness because of their familiarity. Through the added light thrown upon them in the study of Christian Science they grow more wonderfully helpful, as increased understanding shows their application to human situations and experiences. Human needs have not changed since Jesus' days, in so far as they have to do with modes of human thinking.
