For many years I have enjoyed the benefits of Christian Science
For many years I have enjoyed the benefits of Christian Science. The study of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy was a great help to me when I was a student in college in 1893, and also during the five years of teaching which followed.
My husband began to read the textbook and The Christian Science Journal before we were married. Our home was very happy. Our children were healthy and reliable. They finished a course in the university and were nicely located in their own homes.
Suddenly my dear husband passed on, and to me had come the hardest problem of my life. With the great grief and loss of companionship, I found that we had lost much of what the world considers wealth, and that I owed forty thousand dollars. I clung steadfastly to the teaching of Christian Science, and was so thankful for the periodicals, the Journal, Sentinel, and Monitor. They are doing a great work in encouraging people to rise above their troubles. It was necessary for me to sell the house in the city where we had lived for thirty-three years, leave the church where I had been a charter member, and move to a farm. I knew nothing of farming. I am thankful to say, however, that God has led me step by step through the dark hours and business tangles of the past three years. I have been able to carry on the various farm activities in spite of poor crops and low prices. My family has worked harmoniously with me, and today I am free from the worry of debt. The Bible and the various writings of Mrs. Eddy have been a constant source of encouragement to me. By her life and works we are learning how to live our lives.
