I am giving my testimony with deepest gratitude for Christian Science and its healing and regenerating power.

I did not come into Science for healing, although I was sorely in need of it. I thought at one time that its healing power was a fake, if not worse. For a number of years I had been drifting away from religion, as it seemed to have failed to meet my own needs and the needs of the world; in fact, I had about made up my mind to take up agnosticism or atheism. My interest was first aroused by attending a Christian Science lecture in Chicago. The philosophy of this Science appealed to me and seemed to be far ahead of anything I had previously read. As a result, simply by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I rapidly experienced healing, and all doubts as to the healing power of this Science were soon banished.

For months I read this book, and through reading this textbook alone I was healed of drinking and also of the tobacco habit; the healing of chronic indigestion followed rapidly. All these ills were supposed to be incurable, as they were inherited through many generations, and I supposed there was no hope for their cure.
