Although I had always been interested in religion, I did...

Although I had always been interested in religion, I did not feel drawn to Christian Science when it entered my home in 1918. Gradually, however, I came to realize that my religion no longer satisfied me. This made me very unhappy at times, and I remember praying that if it were right, I might be led to accept Christian Science.

This prayer was answered in 1928. I became very ill while away on a visit, and as soon as I returned home I called on a Christian Science practitioner. With her very patient help the healing, though slow, was realized, and I began to study earnestly.

About a year later I experienced an instantaneous healing of a discordant condition of many years' standing. A remark made by a fellow student of Christian Science awakened me to see that I was still partially relying on material means for help, and I decided to do so no more. The next day at the Sunday service there was read in the course of the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly, the story of how Jesus healed the woman "whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years," and like a flash of light I saw that the truth must be just as powerful to heal now as when Jesus walked the earth; and then I realized that I was healed. This healing proved the truth of Mrs. Eddy's words, on page 167 of Science and Health, "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." I also rejoice in liberation from colds and coughs which had greatly troubled me in the past.
