Many years ago, when I was a sickly child, a dear friend...
Many years ago, when I was a sickly child, a dear friend who was a Christian Scientist brought into my life a beam of light from the glorious truth found in Christian Science. Almost immediately the shadows were dispelled. Sickness vanished. A new concept of creation replaced the cruel vision of a materialistic universe in which sin, disease, and death seemed the realities of existence. Materialism began to fade into nothingness as I glimpsed spiritual reality.
During the years that have followed, many false beliefs, such as blood poisoning, rheumatism, severe sore throat, toothache, abscess in the ear, financial difficulties, and other aggressive claims of mortal mind, have been vanquished through my clarified perception of the scientific truth embodied in these words of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy (Science and Health, p. 369): "In proportion as matter loses to human sense all entity as man, in that proportion does man become its master."
The protective power of God was experienced while I was driving alone six hundred miles from New York to Detroit. The journey throughout was most harmonious. The singing of hymns from our Hymnal made the trip a happy one; and when a tire blew out my thought was so filled with the allness of God that no fear ensued. The car, which was headed for a ditch, was easily turned and stopped without any difficulty. Although many cars following were forced to halt, no one was injured or even apparently much disturbed. Thus the illumination of consciousness resulting from the consistent study of Christian Science proved once more a stronghold and "a very present help in trouble." I am deeply grateful for Christian Science.
