I am grateful that I was born into Christian Science and have never had to unlearn many false beliefs about God, man, and health. Because of the faithful Christian Science work of prayerful protection done by my mother, I have never known what it was to be seriously ill. The few children's diseases I had were quickly overcome, with only one half day of school being lost because of sickness in all my life.

In recent years I am grateful for the correction of a fallen arch in my right foot which had caused me considerable pain. This difficulty was healed by Christian Science treatment, and I never knew when it disappeared. I am also grateful for a healing of ivy poisoning, which had become serious; and for the healing of toothaches. The toothaches were often very acute until I understood the statement by our beloved Leader found on page 113 of Science and Health, which reads in part, "There is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain; no never in Mind, and no mind in nerve."

Christian Science took me through grade and high school with success in my studies, enabling me to stand high in my classes. It was my reliable guide through the maze of theoretical dogma and conflicting standards of conduct as found in college. It helped me to see through the mesmerism of popular drinking of intoxicating liquor and of smoking and so these habits never had a hold on me. Christian Science enabled me to avoid prudery in my attitude towards friends who were held by these habits, and for this I am grateful.
