You designate Christian Science as "healing thinking,"...
Kirchliches Gemeindeblatt für das Amt Wangen
You designate Christian Science as "healing thinking," whereby matter with all its effects, as pleasure and pain, enticement and aversion, is to be overcome by thinking, and you mention a few instances of how small sufferings could be mastered. The word "thinking" might lead to misunderstandings. The question arises: Who thinks? or, Who is the thinker? Christian Science relies on the Bible and recognizes God, whom the Scriptures call Spirit, Life, Truth, and Love, as the only creator of all true thoughts or ideas. Man is the manifestation of the divine Mind, or, as Mary Baker Eddy writes, "Man is the expression of God's being" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 470). Erring mortal mind asserts itself as evil; and nothing but the coming of Christ, Truth, to the human consciousness can free from it. Erroneous human thinking and reasoning is recognized by Christian Science as evil, which cannot produce good, and which is dissolved into nothingness when the realization of man's oneness with God, good, takes place. The physical healings are "signs following," as Jesus promised to his followers. Whoever desires to have these signs must first seek "the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto" him. There is no other way.
To seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness is to put righteousness first in all our thoughts, and he who does this will not fail to serve the world, and by his service will help to build up the durable glory of his city, of his nation, of his empire, upon a foundation that cannot be overthrown.
