I desire to bear witness to the truth of that old saying,...

I desire to bear witness to the truth of that old saying, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." Some seventeen years ago I found myself in a strange city, alone, and without funds. My schooling and training had not been in a professional or trade line, consequently I was trying without success every scheme that presented itself. Finally I lacked suitable clothes, food, and home. This was the turning point of my life. Like the prodigal son I came to myself and turned to Christian Science for help. When I called upon a Christian Science practitioner for assistance, after listening patiently to me, he remarked, "Young man, you are fishing on the wrong side of the boat." Then he kindly referred me to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and advised its immediate study in connection with the Bible; also I was told to listen for the "still small voice," and to obey its direction.

That night it came to my thought to write several letters, which I did. By return mail I received a favorable reply to one of these and the following day I was at work. Since that time I have never lacked activity. I was healed. I had gotten out of the "get business" and into the "give business."

In time I became a member of The Mother Church and a branch church, and in the latter I have been privileged to serve in various offices. I have proved in a degree Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 128 of Science and Health: "The human mind, imbued with this spiritual understanding, becomes more elastic, is capable of greater endurance, escapes somewhat from itself, and requires less repose. A knowledge of the Science of being develops the latent abilities and possibilities of man. It extends the atmosphere of thought, giving mortals access to broader and higher realms."
