I feel I must express my deep gratitude to God for what Christian Science has done for me.

Over four years ago I had a most wonderful healing. For many years I had been a very sick woman, with doctors in constant attendance, and had been in and out of hospitals every few months. I had a major operation in June, 1917, which was supposed to restore me to health. I paid hundreds of pounds in a vain effort to gain my health, but as time went on I grew worse. When I went back into hospital and had four X rays, the doctor advised another operation, but I would not consent to it, and came home still very sick. The doctor said the trouble was a growth and that it must be removed. My husband did not wish me to have another operation, as he felt that in my weak state I could not stand it.

One day, on coming from the kitchen to my room, I caught my foot in a broken piece of linoleum and was thrown heavily against a corner of a hall with projecting skirting, which rendered me unconscious. When I regained my senses I could not get up for a while. Then I managed to crawl on my hands and knees to my bedroom, about fourteen feet away. I knew my shoulder and ribs were badly hurt, also my knee. When my husband and brother-in-law, who is a first-aid lecturer, came in, the latter examined the shoulder and ribs and summed up the case as a fractured shoulder blade and broken ribs. He put my arm in a sling to ease the pain. After consultation with a doctor, a hospital X ray, and further consultation, I was told that I had fractured my shoulder and two ribs. I told him that I was suffering from pleurisy, as I could hardly breathe. He replied that I did not have pleurisy, but an internal hemorrhage; that he could not do anything more for me; that if I had undergone the operation he wanted me to have, I might have had a chance, but that the growth was cancer in its worst form and that my case was hopeless. He wanted me to get a nurse to look after me, as he said my sufferings would be very great, but I said that I could not afford one. He then offered to put me in an institution where I should be well cared for and he could attend me and do all he could for me. The next day I told the doctor that, as my end was believed to be so near, I had decided to remain at home, and I was going to a higher Physician—to God—for divine help.
