I think that it is as a mother that I am most grateful for Christian Science. When my children were small they were ill so often that I hardly knew what it was to be free from a terrible fear for them. I was beginning to wonder how I could teach them something about God, but as I knew so little myself, I did not dare to try. I had a governess at that time who was interested in Christian Science, and we had many talks together, but it all seemed so impossible—I could only envy those who were able to rely entirely on God for help.

One day a friend lent me the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Then I began to see that God is all-powerful, ever-present Love, and I soon realized that Mrs. Eddy had made the solution of problems so possible for frightened mothers like myself. In realizing that I could trust God to look after my children, that I could always ask a practitioner to help them, and that I myself did not have to do dreadfully difficult things, I gradually began to lose my fear, and my children became strong and happy. In the Sunday school they were taught to love and understand God and to rely on Him in all their troubles. They have been healed within a day or two of measles, mumps, and chicken pox, and with no aftereffects or suffering of any kind.

One day, soon after I had decided to give up material methods to healing, my boy had a bad bronchial attack, and I asked a practitioner to help him. He was then about seven years old, and had just recovered from pneumonia for the second time, so I was very much frightened. On the evening of the second day he suddenly seemed to be very much worse. I was alone in the house with my children and there was no telephone, so I could not get help in any way. At first I was tempted to think that perhaps Christian Science was no good, and that I ought to have sent for a doctor before, and I believe I should have done so then if it had been possible. But all I could do was to get the textbook, which I read in a room close by, where I could hear the boy. After reading for a little time I had a great sense of peace, and I realized that of course God would not fail me, for I had relied upon Him. I then noticed that the coughing had ceased, and I found the boy sleeping peacefully and breathing quite naturally. Since then I have never had any doubt that Christian Science heals every erroneous condition; and I have had a great many proofs of this fact for myself as well as for my children.
