With joy and thankfulness I send this message to tell of...
With joy and thankfulness I send this message to tell of the healing power of Christian Science, hoping it will encourage others to press on. Twelve years ago I seemed past human help. I was in pain day and night with what is called rheumatoid arthritis. My condition was pronounced incurable, and daily I got weaker, more weary of life. Then a copy of The Christian Science Journal was sent to me by a Quaker friend, who told me that Christian Science was the only thing that could relieve me. I knew little about it, but as everything else had failed, I determined to see what it could do, not expecting to receive any relief. A practitioner came to see me, explained the truth, and began work for me in Christian Science. Improvement was steady, as love and hope replaced self-pity and despair. I became able partly to dress myself, to move about, and to do little things in the house. After about eight weeks' treatment, I took a short walk accompanied by my two young children. As I learned more of the truth and tried to put it into practice, I gained more freedom, until my health and strength were completely restored. What joy to state that during the twelve years that have passed since that wonderful healing I have not spent one half day in bed! If error has tempted me at times to believe in a sense of pain, weakness, or weariness, it has always been overcome and destroyed with the knowledge of Truth. As St. John says, "Now are we the sons of God."
My little daughter was healed of measles in two days, and for the last two years she has been the only girl in her school who has not been absent on account of colds. She has been greatly helped by the Christian Science Sunday School, which she began to attend at the age of three.
I can never express the gratitude I feel to God, to the Christ, Truth, and to our dear Leader for her wonderful life and work in revealing to us the truth in all its simplicity and power. As a last word, I would say to those who do not seem to get the understanding of Christian Science at once, Do not be discouraged, but work, watch, and pray, and the light will come.
