Flux and Permanence
A superficial observer of world conditions might find himself deploring the signs of these times. He might even echo the words of Isaiah: "judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. Yea, truth faileth." According to visible evidence, the green bay tree appears to flourish, while the olive branch of peace remains out of sight. This is in part attributable to the fact that a portion of humanity is attempting to substitute atheism for religion, regarding the latter as outmoded. But disregard of the power of good affords no defence against evil. In "Miscellaneous Writings" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 268): "From lack of moral strength empires fall. Right alone is irresistible, permanent, eternal."
Quietly, unitedly, all over the world, Christian Scientists in increasing numbers are found nullifying the errors of disease, ugly dispositions, intemperance, family breaches, poverty, sorrow, through utilizing the power of God, divine Mind. New light is being thrown upon the immortal and practical truths contained in Scripture through Mrs. Eddy's chief work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
A closer scrutiny of world affairs discloses the fact that despite apparent flux and commotion, the power and permanence of intelligent thinking emphasized in Christian Science is dawning in human consciousness; and nations as well as individuals are being drawn into the unity of good. The often distraught gaze of men is slowly turning from the notion of many minds to the scientific recognition of one Mind, the power of which is bringing latent evil to the surface for its final destruction. A mighty cohesion is appearing whereby the unreal conditions of flux and division will give way to permanence and oneness. Humanity's irrepressible determination to find a way to establish peace among the nations is indicative of the influence of divine Mind and its power to bring out right judgment and government in human affairs.
