It is with a heart full of gratitude to God for His unfailing help at all times, and to our dear Leader for making it possible for each one of us to follow more closely in the footsteps of the Master, that I write this testimony.
It is my privilege to have been brought up in Christian Science from the age of nine, and since that time I have both experienced and witnessed in our family the healings of many physical diseases and discordant conditions, among them measles, whooping cough, deafness, jaundice, influenza, severe cuts, and valvular heart disease of which my father was healed after he had been pronounced incurable by several physicians. I have also been wonderfully helped in the overcoming of a sense of separation and loneliness, when on my marriage I had to leave England and go to live in the Irish Free State, where I thought I had no friends, and where the nearest Christian Science church was forty-five miles away; but, instead, I found there were both friends and opportunities for helping others awaiting me, and my life is full of joy and happiness.
There is one experience I should like particularly to mention, as it may be a help to someone else in overcoming fear, and in realizing the ever-presence and power of God. I was standing at the window of a ground-floor room one day with my husband and a friend, when suddenly I saw our little son, then aged eighteen months, come hurtling through the air past the window. For an instant fear gripped me, but almost at once came the reassuring thought, "Underneath are the everlasting arms," and not a gravel path! I thought, "He cannot fall outside divine Love, for Love is around and beneath and above him, so all is well." I ran out at once and picked him up, declaring the truth aloud all the time. He had fallen from the top bar of the nursery window on the second floor. I walked up and down for a few minutes carrying him in my arms, and presently the crying ceased and he was asleep. A short time afterwards he sat up laughing and said, "Big bump! Mummie came." There was not a bruise or a scratch on him anywhere.
